Next Step Mentoring for Song Leaders
This event is an opportunity for a small group of song leaders to come together under the experienced guidance of Una McCann. Una is the current chair of the Natural Voice Network and has been leading choirs professionally for 14 years. Check out her website here: unamccann.org.
The workshop is suitable for those who already have some experience in song leading and who are seeking ongoing development and guidance about their craft.
The Next Step event will provide an opportunity to look at some or all of the following:
- leading with heart
- choosing and developing repertoire
- preparing for concerts
- questions and answers
- problem solving
- there may be opportunities to teach a short song/ warm up (please prepare for this)
The event is scheduled during the same weekend that Ali Burns is leading a singing workshop in Belfast as some of you may want to attend both events. (Saturday 13th September)

Una McCann is a Belfast based choir leader, singer, songwriter and musician with over 30 years of experience as a music facilitator working with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Una now works primarily using singing and runs up to 8 weekly choirs. These choirs all operate in line with the Natural Voice Network principles, for example; no audition and all songs taught by ear. Una currently sits as Chair on that organisation’s Trustee Board.
A qualified music teacher (PGCE),Una has been leading choirs professionally for 13 years. Currently work with community choirs in Antrim, Ballymena and Belfast she also runs a weekly Irish language choir in Belfast called ‘Na Béil Bhinne’.
Una also works with staff at Queens University and Translink providing them with Well-Being choirs. An accomplished pianist and guitarist, she often uses these instruments to accompany choirs.
Una offers singing holidays as a deep immersion into song. This year she has teamed up with the Song House in Donegal to offer week long singing adventures to song and nature lovers. Find out more at https://www.thesonghouseireland.com/
